Training & Career Development Core

The Center's Training & Career Development Core provides training for future health-care professionals and scientists, especially for health-care professionals and scientists who have research interests in areas of underserved populations. The Training and Career Development Core draws on the extensive resources available at Boston University and partnering institutions, including established affiliations with community/neighborhood health centers and other community-based organizations, as well as new relationships that the CREEDD seeks to foster. The Training & Career Development Core aims to: (1) Promote awareness of CREEDD and CREEDD-related activities among students and investigators with a research interest in the area of oral health disparities with a particular emphasis on fostering and nurturing future applicants for training grants in the area of oral health disparities. (2) Serve as a resource for identifying and disseminating information about courses, seminars, and events related oral health disparities. (3) Link research opportunities available through CREEDD with investigators with an interest in dental disparities. (4) Work with the curriculum committee at Boston University School of Dental Medicine and other collaborating institutions to incorporate results from CREEDD research into core curriculum. (5) Develop and disseminate information at the local, regional and national levels. Disseminated information will include successful techniques for recruitment and retention of underserved populations in research. (6) Establish a network of researchers with expertise in oral health disparity research, and mentor less experienced investigators to engage in oral health disparity research. (7) Nurture and foster investigators from underrepresented groups.
